A HUDDERSFIELD engineering firm is helping bring the golden age of steam back to Greenhead Park.

Holset, which makes turbochargers, has built a model steam locomotive capable of pulling carriages containing 30 people.

Most of the work, which took two years, has been completed by second-year apprentices at the firm, as part of their training.

Help was given by Brighouse Model Engineers' Club, some of whose members work at Holset.

The firm held a naming ceremony for the engine at its headquarters in St Andrew's Road, Turnbridge.

The locomotive was named Golden Jubilee, as it was Holset's 50th anniversary last year.

The ceremony also marked another important event for Holset - managing director David Moorhouse's retirement.

Mr Moorhouse, who has served the firm for 34 years, leaves this week.

The machine will be given to the Huddersfield society in September. It will go on the model railway tracks in Greenhead Park.

Carriages will be open to the public and some have disabled access.
