A young mum has called for action after witnessing five car accidents outside her front door in just two-and-a-half years.
Sammie Boustead, a 26-year-old, mother-of-one, of Lowergate, Paddock, said: “I moved here in August 2013 but I went to Royds Hall School so I know the area very well.
“Motorists come speeding round that corner and think they can handle it but they can’t.
“On Sunday night, at 10.45pm, I heard tyres screeching and I knew what was going to happen next.
“I ran downstairs and found a taxi driver had lost control, hit a neighbour’s wall breaking the gas pipe and causing a leak resulting in several home owners having to evacuate their homes.

“He then hit my wall and slid into my Skoda Rapid causing some damage and leaving it out of action. The police came out and took his name and address.
“But why is nothing being done to make this road safer?
“It was only a couple of weeks ago that the wall across from our house was hit when the police were chasing another car.
“Five houses had had to have their walls repaired in the time I have lived here from hit and runs and a large number of cars have been hit as well.
“At the very least I would like to see some kind of warning sign put up, perhaps one of those that flashes up showing drivers their speeds and warning them to slow down.
“The road itself is fine it’s just the drivers who are a problem. The accidents almost always happen late at night.”
Kirklees councillor Andrew Marchington, (Golcar), said: “Yes, I would support some kind of action along these lines. I will pop down and see Sammie and see what we can do.
“There’s a highways meeting coming up soon in a couple of weeks and I will mention it then. I know there have been problems in that area.”
