FIVE men were detained after a fracas left a teenager in hospital - and police plan to make further arrests.

Trouble flared close to a taxi office at Low Lane in Birstall at 7.30pm on Saturday.

The fracas involved several people and the 19-year-old man suffered head injuries.

He was taken to Dewsbury District Hospital and detained overnight before being allowed home the next day.

The five men who were arrested are aged from 19 to 48.

They were initially held on suspicion of various offences, including assault and public disorder and released on bail pending further inquiries.

Police say further arrests are planned.

Dewsbury community safety inspector Martin Lister said: "We are carrying out high- visibility patrols in the area and linking with local partner agencies to resolve any issues that may have arisen from the incident."

Police were appealing for witnesses or anyone who had any information that could help the inquiry.
