A 28-year-old man who had his jaw broken during an attack in Huddersfield town centre is being released from hospital.

There were initial reports the man had been stabbed but police now believe no weapon was involved.

Det Insp Seth Robinson, of Kirklees CID, said the victim was involved in an altercation with five men as he walked along Westgate, Huddersfield town centre, on Saturday afternoon.

Yesterday police said the attack appeared to be unprovoked.

Det Insp Robinson said: “There was a group of five males but only one has punched him. They have run off along Station Street.

“The victim, who is from the Huddersfield area, has required hospital treatment but is being released today.”
