A CARE home has achieved top marks for its catering facilities.

White Rose House in Holmfirth was awarded its five-star rating from Kirklees Council as part of its Scores on the Doors scheme, which rates businesses including care homes, restaurants, pubs, hotels and takeaways.

The scheme aims to provide the consumer with better information on the quality of services.

The star rating is based on hygiene inspection and subjects looked at include food hygiene and procedures, structural conditions and cleanliness and confidence in management.

The catering team at White Rose House, which is run by Meridian Healthcare, scored top marks for producing good-quality, nutritious, home cooked food three times a day for the home’s 60 residents.

The team (pictured) is led by head chef Shane Apperley. They pride themselves on their spotless kitchen and strong sense of teamwork when creating tasty dishes.

When asked the secret of the team’s success, Shane said: “I have a fantastic team of chefs and kitchen assistants, who ensure that the kitchen runs to a strict regime and the cleaning and food hygiene are carried out to the letter. A ‘deep clean’ is carried out on a monthly basis to ensure our standards are always high.”

Care centre manager Joanne Hempstock said she was very proud of her catering team.

She added: “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication shown by Shane and his team.

“Food is one of life’s pleasures and the tasty dishes that come out of the kitchen are very popular with all the residents, especially the delicious home-made pies, cakes and pastries.

“I’d like to congratulate the team on their fantastic achievement.’’
