A Huddersfield teenager who is both deaf and blind has already smashed his target to raise money towards school trips for his profoundly disabled classmates.

And now he wants to raise even more.

Daniel Snee, from Fixby, has run the equivalent of a marathon during his training for the run on Wednesday, March 23.

Sixteen-year-old Daniel is a student at the Royal School Manchester (RSM) in Cheadle Hulme, run by the charity Seashell Trust and travels across there every day.

Determined Daniel also has severe development delay, severe autism, sensory processing dysfunction, epilepsy and is unable to speak.

But he is defying his disabilities to combine the sport and charity sections of his silver Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) award with a sponsored run.

Daniel has launched an online fundraising page and will be running as far as he can – along with his learning support team – at Woodbank Park athletics track in Stockport.

Daniel lives at home with parents Michelle and John.

Michelle said: “We are so incredibly proud of him and is now so strong and fit with all his running. It is a bright red track with white lines which he really likes to run around.

“He aimed to raise £2,500 and his total now including Gift Aid is almost £3,500. There are now a few days left so we would love make it past £4,000.

“What has been really special is that there have been so many donations from people across Huddersfield we don’t know including some lovely messages of support.”

For instance, donor Lisa Cullen said: “Saw your story online and wanted to make a small donation. Good luck Daniel, what a wonderful thing to do.”

David and Carol Armitage added: “What a truly fantastic achievement.”

While Simon and Alison Thomas said: “Good luck Daniel, you are an inspiration to us all!”

Allyson Taylor, one of Dan’s teachers at RSM, said: “Dan can’t see details and has reduced lower field of vision which means he can’t see his feet unless he moves his head right down and concentrates for a while. Running independently is a huge achievement for him.”
