A MAN has been fined after stealing DVDs from a Huddersfield supermarket.

Tobias Whiteley, of Moor Top Lane, Flockton, was before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

He admitted theft of the items, worth £21, from the Market Street branch of Sainsbury’s on March 23.

James Weekes, prosecuting, said that the 20-year-old was seen concealing the DVDs in his clothes before exiting the store.

He was chased by security staff, who took him back to the store to await the arrival of police.

Whiteley accepted he was responsible, claiming he only had a small amount of cash on him at the time.

The court was told that he had two previous convictions, including one for shoplifting in February.

Magistrates ordered Whiteley to pay £130 fine, £85 towards court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
