A LONG-serving airman from Dalton has become an officer in the RAF.

Flying Officer Stewart Morris has completed the initial officer training course at RAF Cranwell near Sleaford in Lincolnshire.

He is now continuing with his training as a weapons systems officer flying Nimrod aircraft at RAF Kinloss in Scotland.

He joined the RAF in 1984 and his parents, Brian and Pearl, live at Dalton.

Stewart was educated at Huddersfield New College.

He is married to Bev and the couple have two children, 11-year-old Callum and seven- year-old Adam.

He is a black belt coach in Korean karate and is also qualified in combat survival and rescue.
