A men's health campaign is off to a real head start in Huddersfield.
Pub fund-raiser Andrew Hulme has already brought in more than £1,750 by promising to have a clean shave in aid of Movember 2015.
And others were urged to back the campaign at a launch party in Lockwood at the weekend.
The Star Inn hosted a ‘mini shave off’ on Sunday as regular punter Andrew had a clean shave courtesy of Newsome hairdresser and male groomer, Barbarella.
“Movember is a brilliant idea,” said landlady Sam Watt. “It has raised millions of pounds for men’s health and we are only too happy to help raise even more money and awareness.”
The pub also supports the Stafflex Movember awards evening at Huddersfield Rugby Union club on Monday November 30.

“The Movember awards was one of the best events of last year,” said Poppy Stahelin, marketing assistant at Stafflex, main sponsors of the event. “We had about 150 people there with about 30 sporting moustaches of various colours and sizes. It was a laugh and raised hundreds of pounds for charity.”
The Movember Foundation is a global organisation which challenges men and boys to take action on the health risks they face and to raise funds to tackle unanswered questions on prostate and testicular cancer and men’s mental health.
Some schools encourage staff to grow a moustache so pupils can be made more aware of the causes supported by Movember.
“They use it as a talking point. It’s proving really successful with the children telling the rest of the family who in turn get to know about the perils of men’s health,” said Abigail Stahelin-Hall, of Stafflex.
The awards evening is at Lockwood Park Rugby Club from 6 to 10pm. Admission is £5 to include light supper.
