Flytippers have dumped a huge pile of rubbish on the picturesque moors above Huddersfield.

And a man who found the eyesore described it as “disgusting”.

The rubbish has been dumped alongside the A640 New Hey Road at Nont Sarahs, near Scammonden.

It is the latest in a series of such incidents across Kirklees.

People in Marsden were left fuming just 10 days ago over a huge pile of 21 fridges found dumped on Wessenden Moor.

Only days ago the council reported that they were receiving a staggering 250 calls every month and having to spend thousands of pounds in clearing up the mess.

Mark Mercer, of Golcar, travels along the road on a regular basis and said it was the second time rubbish had been fly-tipped at the scene.

He said: ““There has been a most disgusting case of fly tipping on New Hey Road above Nont Sarahs, either last night or this morning.

“I have never seen such a dump. It looks like a house clearance.

“Some of the stuff has blown over the moors and it stretches for 30 yards or more along the road.

“I spent a fruitless few minutes hoping to find an envelope or some evidence of identity but did not have time to turn everything over”.

Wheel marks at the scene show a that large vehicle had been bogged down and a board used to get it out.

The matter has been reported to Kirklees Council.
