A RUGBY player who squeezed a stranger’s breasts in a Huddersfield pub and then glassed her in the face after she slapped him was today jailed for two years.

Former Huddersfield Giants winger Greg Johnson, of Newsome Road, Newsome, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and grievous bodily harm following the attack on Belinda Kelly (nee Coldwell) in Yates’ Bar in Huddersfield in February 2010.

Secretary Mrs Kelly, from Crosland Moor, was knocked to the floor and was left with permanent scarring and damage to the sight in her left eye.

Today the 26-year-old told the Examiner she was "pleased" Johnson, 21, who parted company with the Giants after the attack came to light, had gone to prison after all he had put her through.

And Mrs Kelly said it was a clear message to other people in the public eye that they can't get away with what they want.

After the sentence was announced, Johnson's current team Wakefield Wildcats said he had been "dismissed" by the club.

They released a statement which read: "Johnson, who joined the club in April until the end of the 2011 season, has been immediately dismissed by the club following being found guilty of the incident which took place in February 2011, before he joined the Wildcats.

"No further comment will be made regarding this matter."
