A former Huddersfield Town player was one of six people arrested as part of a football spot-fixing probe.

Akpo Sodje – who was on loan at the John Smith’s Stadium club in 2004 – has been held by police.

Also arrested were two of his brothers, Sam Sodje and Steven Sodje. The remaining three are Ian Goodison, Cristian Montano and DJ Campbell.

The National Crime Agency said all were in custody after it acted on reports passed on to it by a tabloid newspaper.

The paper reported that an undercover investigator met former Portsmouth and Reading player Sam Sodje, who allegedly said he could arrange for footballers in the Championship to get themselves a yellow card in return for tens of thousands of pounds.

The 34-year-old claimed he could rig Premier League games and even said he was preparing to fix matches at next year’s World Cup in Brazil.
