MARK Carter will find out if he is to face a retrial on a sexual assault charge next week.

The Leeds Crown Court jury today failed to reach a verdict on a third sexual assault charge after clearing him on two counts and also returning not guilty verdicts on two charges of rape.

MARK Carter has been cleared by jurors of two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault.

The jury are deliberating a final charge of sexual assualt, which has been denied.

1.15pm HUDDERSFIELD policeman Mark Carter has been cleared by jurors on one of the charges of sexual assault he was facing.

Carter, 28 – a former Mr Gay UK – has been on trial since Monday, June 6 for allegedly sexually assaulting three men and raping another.

The offences are alleged to have happened after a Christmas night out with colleagues on December 18, 2009.

Carter, of Station Lane, Birkenshaw, denies two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault from the same evening.

The jury retired at 2.10pm yesterday to consider their verdicts before being sent home at the end of the day after not reaching any verdicts.

They restarted their deliberations this morning and returned a not guilty verdict on one charge of sexual assault.

The trial continues.
