It’s not the type of outfit you would wear for a stroll through Huddersfield town centre.

But a student has won praise for her outlandish outfit – because you can hear it.

Erika Leadbeater has rustled up a music track from a suit she has created.

Erika, a textile design student, has created a sound suit from recycled materials that forms the basis for a music track and video.

The 20-year-old former Rastrick High School
student specialises in embroidery and created the sound suit, accompanying headdress and collaborative track with musician Toby Wilson, aka Dr Sloth.

Erika, of Brighouse, said: “I was working with recycled materials and found it natural to listen to what noises they made and experiment by hearing different noises together.

“It’s gone from there to working with Dr Sloth, a film crew and photographer to make the track.

“I specialise in embroidery so am used to using materials in a different way and manipulating them into something else. This is another way of doing that.”

The suit and accompanying headdress is made completely out of recycled materials chosen for their audible and tactile qualities.

The track was composed of sounds recorded almost entirely from the movements of the suit itself when worn and performed in.

Erika, in her final year at Nottingham Trent University created Technoshaman through a collaboration with editor and art director, Jennifer Lianos; a final year multimedia student.

Erika is now preparing for her end of year show and hopes to showcase her work to former art teachers at Rastrick High School.

She’s hoping to travel once she finishes university and has designs on a masters degree at the Royal College of Art.
