Huddersfield Town fans will take a special interest in a TV programme tomorrow.

For a fly on the wall documentary, Inside Manchester City, features a face well-known to the old Leeds Road faithful.

Les Chapman, who played four seasons for Town, has been the kit man at Manchester City since 1997.

And he has a starring role in the hour-long programme, which will be aired on ITV4.

Chapman, 65, is one of many staff who are interviewed by the film crews in the wake of the arrival of new manager Manuel Pellegrini.

They talk in glowing terms of the new man and Chapman tells the programme the atmosphere among the players is ‘infinitely better’ under Pellegrini.

City granted the programme-makers unique access, with players and staff including Edin Dzeko, Martin Demichelis, Aleksandr Kolarov, Pellegrini and Under 21s coach Patrick Vieira interviewed both at the club and going about their daily lives.

Chapman says there is a better atmosphere around the whole club since Pellegrini arrived, to replace Roberto Mancini.

‘It is infinitely better this year. Players are a lot happier, the club is a lot happier,’ he said.

‘He [Pellegrini] is a very polite man. He says good morning, which is a big difference.’

Chapman made his football debut for Oldham Athletic but signed for Town in 1966.

He went on to make 134 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals.

His later career saw him play at Stockport County, Bradford City, Preston and, notably, San Jose Earthquakes in California.

He later managed at Stockport and Preston and had a brief spell as youth coach back at Town.

The programme goes out at 10pm, April 1, on ITV4.
