A FOSTER mum has complained about poor access for buggies in Huddersfield.

Carol Powell, of Waterloo, is fed up of struggling with her double buggy when out shopping in town – and locked doors are a major problem.

The 42-year-old looks after two toddlers, but said she often encounters problems opening doors or manoeuvring around shops.

She said some shops – even those that cater exclusively for children – sometimes only have one door unlocked.

Miss Powell said she encounters most problems when in Kingsgate Shopping Centre.

She said:“It’s hard going pushing three-and-a-half stone around. The doors to the shopping centre aren’t propped open and they’re not automatic so it’s hard work opening them.

“Luckily people have been about to help me when I’m on my own.”

Miss Powell phoned the Kingsgate Centre to highlight the problem and now hopes something might be done to improve access to the centre and its shops.

She said: “I’m sure it’s not just mothers with buggies that struggle, but wheelchair users too.”

Kingsgate was contacted for a response but failed to provide one.
