LABOUR activists in Dewsbury meet on May 15 to decide on a candidate to succeed MP Ann Taylor after her decision to quit at the next General Election.

On the shortlist are Jamie Hanley, Sameena Khan, Ian McKenzie and Shahid Malik.

Mr Malik, 36, is a Labour National Executive Committee member from Burnley.

Mr McKenzie, from London, is a political adviser to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.

Ms Khan, 41, the only woman on the shortlist, is a former pupil of Battye Street School, Heckmondwike. She now lives in Middlesex and works for the Cabinet Office.

Mr Hanley, 30, from Rawdon, near Leeds, is a partner in a law firm.

Mrs Taylor is standing down after a Commons career going back to 1974. She served in Tony Blair's Cabinet.
