beer hasn’t flowed from its cellars for more than a year but now they are back in business.

The Four Sons Inn, formerly The Clough House, is selling ale again.

The pub on Clough Lane, Rastrick, was bought by Rick and Maggie Starkey for £300,000 in August last year from Enterprise Inns and the couple immediately set about refurbishing at a cost of more than £100,000.

It's been a long wait! Maggie Starkey pulls the first pint at The Four Sons on Wednesday night. The pub reopens on Friday afternoon.

Specially invited guests, many of whom have worked on the project, enjoyed an evening to remember hours before the official re-opening.

The pub now boasts half a dozen real ales to choose from including Yorkshire Blonde brewed by Ossett Brewery.

Maggie, a mother of four sons, said she was delighted to be finally serving ale after a longer than expected refurbishment.

The original plan had been to open before Christmas.

She said: “It’s been a lot of very hard work but we have got there in the end.”

Maggie, who owns The Roundhill Inn, just three hundred yards away on the same road, joked that it felt “weird” to be serving beer at another pub but said she was looking forward to getting used to it.

Her son Cameron will manage the pub. He said: “It was good to have this evening opening just for family and friends to iron out any glitches.

“My contact at Ossett Brewery advised me to have two such nights and it was very good advice.”

Gledholt Male Voice Choir performed at the trial run and a number of Huddersfield undertakers were been invited as Maggie hopes to develop the pub’s reputation for hosting wakes – Huddersfield Crematorium is less than a mile away.

The pub will open from noon to midnight seven days a week. It is hoped to serve food from May.
