POLICE arrested two people in Ravensthorpe as part of a major fraud inquiry.

A man and a woman have been arrested after search warrants were executed in Dewsbury in connection with the ongoing investigation.

Officers from the Economic Crime Unit, supported by the Operations Support Division, the Underwater Search Unit and Dewsbury Neighbourhood Policing Team executed the warrants at houses on Scarborough Street, Wormalds View and Bretton Street.

During the search of a house on Scarborough Street, officers seized around £4,000 in cash, a 4 X 4 car, a small quantity of what it is believed to be cannabis and electrical equipment including two televisions.

As part of the operation police divers from the Underwater Search Team also searched a stretch of the Calder and Hebble Canal running behind the house in Scarborough Street.

It is believed something may have been dumped in the waterway.

The 35-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of money laundering, interviewed by detectives and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Det Sgt Ian Harding said: “Investigations into negative role models continue across the Force and residents are asked to report any suspicions they have about those who appear to be living way beyond their means to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 and ask the question why should they?"
