Free boat trips on canal as Safe Anchor trust launches another year of open days

Sage Anchor Trust kick off year with dozens taking to the water

It was a case of “All aboard” for a Mirfield charity.

The Safe Anchor Trust launched another year of fun open days from their base at Shepley Bridge Marina, with a series of boat trips.

Dozens of people took to the water for the first of several such events.

Anchor Trust open weekend youngsters aboard the Lady Victoria canal boat prepare to cast off for a free trip down the canal from Shepley Bridge Marina, Mirfield during the trusts open weekend.

The Trust was established in 1995 and in recent years around 14,000 passengers have been carried on the boats each year. Since The Trust was started, over 750 community groups have enjoyed outings on the boats.

Volunteers manned the boats for the 50-minute boat trips to Mirfield centre and back and served refreshments.

The children were also able to tour the model garden railway featuring Thomas the Tank Engine.
