THE countdown is on for free bus rides at off-peak times for the over-60s and disabled people.

Some 325,000 people in West Yorkshire who hold concessionary travel permits can start enjoying the perk from tomorrow.

They can also go free of charge on buses in and out of Greater Manchester, Lancashire, South Yorkshire and North Yorkshire.

Metro chairman Clr Karam Hussain said: "People over 60 and most disabled people will be able to travel free on buses throughout West Yorkshire after 9.30am Monday to Friday and all day Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays."
