FREEMASONS in Huddersfield have been handing out large grants from their coffers.

They have joined others from across West Yorkshire in donating money to a string of worthy causes.

Hade Edge FC, who field several teams in the Huddersfield District Football League, has been awarded £18,000 to improve their facilities at Flowery Fields.

They will bring benefits for about 100 youngsters linked to the club’s junior section.

The grants are part of an £80,000 distribution by West Riding Freemasons at their recent annual meeting in Harrogate.

Provincial Grand Master John K Clayton said he was delighted to be able to provide support in various communities and said that this year’s major grants were a follow up to the total of £223,000 distributed last year to celebrate HM The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

A number of Huddersfield groups benefited in 2012, including Hepworth Brass Band (£20,000) and Colne Valley Museum (£12,000).
