A DRAMA student is taking her play to Edinburgh's Fringe Festival.

Freya Murray, 19, from Birkby, begins casting for the play she has written next week and she will be employing fellow students from Hull University in the starring roles.

The first-year student will also direct the play which is called Hellgate.

It centres around a group of A-level students who are preparing a presentation on criminality and decide to use the story of Macbeth to illustrate their findings, but one odd-ball teenager becomes obsessed with his character and takes things a bit too far.

"I had to do a similar thing for my A-levels," she said. "That is where the idea came from.

"There will be four plays by groups from Hull University at Edinburgh Festival which is very exciting for us. Ideally I would like to write and direct for a living."

Every year groups from Hull University put on shows at The Fringe and Freya is hoping for sponsorship to raise the £25,000 needed to stage the show.

She said: "There will be 14 shows - one a night for two weeks. We are going to be doing a lot of fund-raising, but we would love sponsorship to help get the show moving."
