THREE friends have walked from coast to coast across England - and raised £300 for charity.

Joyce White, Margaret Porter and Gina Williams walked 200 miles from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay in Yorkshire.

The women, who have all been widowed about 10 years, took 14 days to complete the trek.

Margaret, of Netherton, and Gina, of Birkby, met through their late husbands Colin and David.

They were widowed within three months of each other and became members of the Huddersfield Healthy Life Ramblers.

There they met Joyce, whose late husband was Len White, a professional footballer.

Gina will be 70 this year and is a year older than Margaret, while Joyce was keeping her age to herself.

They walked between 10 and 22 miles per day, staying in B&Bs.

Margaret raised about £300 in sponsorship for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Gina, an escort with Examiner Travel, said: "It was hard going at times but the camaraderie was brilliant."
