A mum and her young son have been forced out of their home by a fire.

But Selina Clayton’s friends are rallying round to help her with a social media appeal.

They hope to raise £1,500 to try and replace some of the property that Selina lost in Sunday night’s fierce blaze.

It ripped through the downstairs of the home in Coule Royd, Dalton, where she has lived since 2007.

Thankfully, Selina and her eight-year-old son Amarley were staying with family when the blaze broke out.

Huddersfield and Mirfield fire crews turned out to the fire at 11.43pm on Sunday.

A firefighter said: “The ground floor was well alight, it was quite a substantial fire. We were there for two hours.

“There were no injuries to anyone and the cause of the fire is suspected to be accidental. The fire investigation unit came along too.”

Fire investigators are still trying to discover the cause of the fire.

Ms Clayton and her eight-year-old son Amarley were staying at her mother’s home in Dalton when the fire broke out.

She said: “A neighbour came running round and knocked us up, saying my house was on fire.

“It has gone through everywhere and we have lost so much. We haven’t been able to go back there and I don’t yet know what is going to happen.”

Ms Clayton’s friends from her schooldays, Emma Taylor and Stephanie Harlow, have now set up a Justgiving page to try and help her.

Emma said: “Selina is a hardworking single mum who works to provide for her son and it is devastating for her.

“WE hope people will rally round to help.”

Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing officers are to inspect the house and decide what repairs are needed. They said Ms Clayton and her son would be offered alternative accommodation if need.
