A FRIENDSHIP group for single parents has been set up in Mirfield.

The group is backed by Gingerbread, the national charity for single parents.

A group spokeswoman said: “Gingerbread has friendship groups throughout the country but the closest ones to here are in Leeds and Manchester, so we thought we would have a go at setting one up for people in Kirklees.

“We will meet in Mirfield but anyone can come from Batley, Cleckheaton or Huddersfield.”

The group will meet at Trinity Methodist Church, Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, on a Monday morning.

The spokeswoman added: “It’s quite easy to get here as we are a 10-minute walk from Mirfield railway station and are on the bus route for several buses such as the 203 and the 262.”

The group is open to both men and women and people can bring any pre-school children they may have.

“In the summer we hope to go along to local parks and have picnics and we may even have trips out,” added the spokeswoman.

“We will aim to try to keep the cost down because we realise that money is tight for most people.

“If there are people who work full-time and cannot attend meetings during the day, we will be happy to set up a group where people could meet on an evening if there is enough demand. Just ring up and leave your details.’’
