THERE was fun in store when pupils from three schools marked National Science Week.

The pupils, from Scissett Middle School, Shelley College and Kirkburton Middle School, donned goggles and took part in food and drink-based experiments at Morrison's Waterloo store.

It is the third year running that the schools have joined forces to show the public that science lessons can be fun.

The wacky experiments included making batteries from fruit.

Shelley College's assistant head, Debbie Lumb, said: "We ran the day as part of the national campaign to raise the profile of science and to show its value to our community.

"The aim was to put the fun back into science.

"The day also worked as a confidence booster for the students as they have to meet the public and involve them in experiments."
