A TRAIN operator running services through Huddersfield has been recognised for providing safe and secure stations.

First TransPennine Express manages 30 stations across the north, including Huddersfield and Dewsbury.

Now all their stations have been accredited to the Department for Transport’s Secure Station Scheme.

Since 2007/08, FTPE in partnership with the British Transport Police have reduced the crime rate on FTPE stations by 25% while passenger numbers have grown by about 10 million.

FTPE said it had reduced risk to staff and passengers through a £17m investment to make stations light, bright and safe environments.

Initiatives include full CCTV coverage, sponsorship of police community support officers, platform help points and British Transport Police safety assessments.
