AN award-winning firm is displaying its support for Huddersfield's bid to become the UK Capital for Enterprise.

Lockwood-based KD Decoratives is backing the bid to win national recognition for the town.

The company - Kirklees Business of the Year in 2003 - supplies spectacular displays for shopping centres and theme parks worldwide.

Chairman Richard Kitchen-Dunn said putting Huddersfield forward as UK Capital for Enterprise was "a wonderful idea".

He added: "There are so many businesses in Huddersfield which have started out with nothing and are now doing extremely well.

"There are also many enterprising initiatives - such as the mill conversions - going on as well.

"Huddersfield has a positive story to tell."

KD Decorative is a prime example of the town's enterprising spirit.

Mr Kitchen-Dunn and his wife, Gloria, began running the business 26 years ago from a garage in Honley offering window-dressing services to retailers.

Today, the company supplies a worldwide market.

The family-run firm's Albert Street premises includes a 12,000sq ft showroom featuring many of its products.

A Toyland train takes customers on a ride through a Christmas wonderland with Santa Claus, reindeer, snowmen, elves, goblins and fairytale characters - many of them featuring animatronics, allowing them to move, talk and sing.

Clients include Disneyland Paris, the Trafford and Bluewater shopping centres, Alton Towers theme park and London's Natural History Museum.

KD has its own sculptors, artists, designers, installation and maintenance staff and technicians.

The bid to make Huddersfield Britain's Capital for Enterprise is led by regeneration company Huddersfield Pride.

Its bid goes to development agency Yorkshire Forward next week.

The agency will pick one bid from the area to the national finals.

Local people can vote for the bid or find out more on Freephone 08000 111120 or by visiting the www.madein huddersfield.net website to provide their own examples of enterprise in the town.
