A BIG adventure activities and social club is heading to Huddersfield.

Spice - Special Programme of Initiative, Challenge and Excitement - is already popular across the UK.

And now it is extending its programme to create more activities in West Yorkshire - including Huddersfield, Wakefield and Leeds.

Spice was launched over 25 years ago and has organised a wide range of activities.

These range from extreme sports - such as hang-gliding and stock car racing - to more relaxing social events, such as meals out, bowling, badminton and cinema trips.

In Huddersfield, several events are planned, starting on Friday, January 20, at the Head of Steam pub in St George's Square. There will be an opportunity to meet new people and have a drink.

There will be a Jazz Brunch on Sunday, January 29, again at the Head of Steam, and events in February include a ball, a Comedy Cellar show at the Lawrence Batley Theatre and clay pigeon shooting in Holmfirth.

Spice has over 16,000 members in the UK, with more than 100 members already in the Huddersfield area.

Sandra Willis, regional co-ordinator for Yorkshire, said: "It is a great way for motivated adults of all ages to challenge and extend themselves, achieve their ambitions, do extra things in their spare time or just develop their social lives and have fun."

Spice's only restriction is that members must be 18 or over, but most members are in their 30s and 40s.

Sandra said both single people and couples were welcome and added: "Spice is suitable for those who want to get out more, meet new people and try new things."

The cost of membership is £30 a quarter, or £44 for a couple living at the same address. Event costs vary. Non-members can go along to events for a slightly increased fee.
