A CHARITY race set up in memory of a runner killed in a road tragedy has helped many sports causes over the years.
Although the race in memory of Martin Holroyd is no longer staged, some money is still left over and part of that has bought a new football strip for the Crosland Moor All Stars children’s team based at Dryclough Infants School in Crosland Moor.
Asha Hibbert, five, and team members are pictured receiving the strip from Martin’s mother, Brenda, and one of his brothers, Stewart.
The 10k run was staged in the Denby Dale and Clayton West areas and proceeds were often used to help promising junior runners in their careers.
Martin, a member of Denby Dale Running Club, was out training one evening in January 2001 when he was in an accident with a car at the entrance to the Sovereign petrol station in Shepley. He was 44 and lived in Denby Dale.
An inquest later recorded a verdict of accidental death.
