TWO apprentices are unlikely to hear Sir Alan Sugar’s well-known words “You’re Fired’’ after winning top awards.

Andrew Clegg and Tom Kennedy, of the JT Ellis furniture company, have received top accolades for their hard work.

The young apprentices work at the Aspley-based firm and were named as winners of Leeds College of Building awards at a Leeds Town Hall ceremony.

Keith Mallinson, training supervisor at the Silver Street company, said: “I think it’s brilliant that these lads get the opportunities they do, as it gives them a goal to work towards.”

Andrew won the Student Union Cup for his achievement in the college over the last year.

Tom was named best in the year and also got the Skillsbuild award in furniture production.

Tom’s also got through to the Skills Building finals in Birmingham in October.

Mr Mallinson added: “We have our own wall of fame here and we always make sure we recognise what they are doing and have achieved.

“It gives them an incentive to work and learn as much as they can when they know they will be recognised for it.

“What JT Ellis do for the lads is to bring them together. We respect them and make sure our apprentices achieve everything they can in the company.”
