WORKERS at two famous Huddersfield mills face an uncertain Christmas - as administrators continue to seek buyers for the businesses.

Huddersfield Fine Worsted and Globe Worsted were put into administration in August by parent group Hartley Investment Trust.

Administrators from Leeds-based insolvency firm Bartfields have been running the two firms since then.

The companies have a combined workforce of 260.

In October, a spokeswoman for Bartfields said it was hoped to conclude a sale of the businesses within a few weeks.

"We are still looking at a number of offers that have been put forward," she said.

"The companies are still trading, but there has been no material change in circumstances."

Details of the bids have not been disclosed.

Huddersfield Fine Worsted, based at Kirkheaton, and Slaithwaite-based Globe Worsted, are among Huddersfield's best-known textile names.

Hartley Investment Trust brought in the administrators after a breakdown in talks between the group and the Inland Revenue and Customs and Excise over previously deferred PAYE and VAT.

Both companies were trading profitably and had orders on the books.

No redundancies have been made by the administrators.
