A public inquiry will be held to determine the future of a Brighouse venue extension.

A Planning Inspector will rule on whether Casa Hotel and Restaurant should be allowed to keep its current extension.

It comes weeks after Calderdale councillors on the planning committee refused planning permission for the extension, which had partly opened.

The appeal inquiry does not affect the current operations at Casa, and the venue can be used to host functions until the Inspector has made a ruling. They secured a premises licence for the extension last week, giving them to go-ahead to use it for parties and weddings.

Castelite Ltd, the company behind Casa, lodged the appeal with the Planning Inspectorate against an enforcement notice issued by Calderdale Council.

Although Casa had approval for the extension, the council is expected to argue it breaches the approval conditions, being three-storeys instead of two-storeys.

Castelite Ltd is expected to argue that the enforcement notice is excessive and that the time given to comply with the notice is too short.

Statements by interested parties are currently being sought until October 14, with no date for a public hearing as yet.
