HUDDERSFIELD and Dewsbury have just become superfast.

Mobile phone company EE yesterday launched Superfast 4G in the towns offering businesses and residents mobile speeds typically five times faster than 3G.

EE is the superfast 4G brand and company that runs the Orange and T-Mobile brands in the UK.

Availability of 4G mobile services in Yorkshire is growing all the time with the service already switched on in Bradford, Leeds, Sheffield, Shipley, Rotherham, Barnsley and Hull.

The EE stores in the areas offer residents and businesses mobile and Fibre Broadband services from EE, Orange and T-Mobile.

EE is currently the only mobile operator in the UK offering superfast 4G mobile, although other mobile phone operators will be rolling out services soon.

EE regional manager for West Yorkshire John McEvoy said: “The expansion of 4G mobile broadband services is a great benefit to local businesses and residents who will be able to do more on the move with the arrival of these higher speeds.

“We’ve been investing in launching 4G and in improving our existing 2G and 3G services across the region, and I’m delighted that we’re switching on in Huddersfield and Dewsbury.”

4G from EE is now available in 62 towns and cities across the UK, covering more than 50% of the population in just six months since the launch of the superfast service.

EE provides mobile and fixed line services to 26 million customers.

EE’s map of where it plans to switch on 4G coverage in the next three months includes Huddersfield town centre and most immediately surrounding districts.

There are gaps in coverage where 3G is the best that can be expected in areas including Almondbury, Waterloo, Dalton, Kirkheaton, Bradley, Mirfield, Salendine Nook, Outlane, Slaithwaite, Marsden, Meltham (except its covered town centre), Holmbridge, Holme, Upperthong, Hade Edge, Cumberworth, Penistone, Denby Dale, Scissett, Skelmanthorpe, Shepley, Shelley, Kirkburton, Woodsome, Lepton, Grange Moor and Flockton.

EE is currently selling 4G SIM cards for data only, not texts and calls, at a monthly cost of £15.99.
