SPORTS presenter Gabby Logan is quitting ITV to join the BBC, it was announced today.

the daughetr of Huddersfield Town assistant manager Terry Yorath will front a new sports news programme on BBC1 next summer and host coverage of live sporting events.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the BBC at such an exciting time," Logan said.

"The opportunity of working on the sports news programme was one I just couldn't resist."

The 33-year-old will cover a range of sports and will also become part of Five Live's presenting team.

The BBC's director of sport, Roger Mosey, said: "Gabby has an impressive background in sports broadcasting and she'll be a fantastic addition to the BBC Sport team."

Logan decided to move channels after being sidelined by ITV Sport bosses during the World Cup.

They handed the main job to Steve Rider and also replaced her as main anchor for the broadcaster's Champions League coverage.
