WEST Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service is to stage a summer gala again this year.

The gala at its Birkenshaw headquarters was such a success last year, a date for this year's event has now been set for Saturday, July 8.

It will run from noon to 4.30pm.

Chief Fire Officer Phil Toase said: "After last year's response from the public and an attendance of over 4,000 people, we are more than happy to hold the event again this year.

"Our committee is already working hard to ensure a wide range of activities, stalls, food, drink and entertainment to suit everyone."

All three emergency services will be at the event with information stands, displays, recruitment details and other information.

Others there will include St John Ambulance Service, mountain rescue teams, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Red Cross Victim Support and RNLI.

The event is being jointly organised by the fire services and Birkenshaw Residents Association.

Anyone wanting a stall or to get involved should phone Brian Hughes on 01924 500692.
