HUDDERSFIELD Town launched their new home kit by illuminating it onto the town’s most iconic building.

The club chose to unveil their new home kit in spectacular fashion as night fell last night – by projecting an image of it onto Huddersfield Railway Station in St George’s Square.

And they did it in front of fans who were invited by Town to the public launch, but had no idea of what to expect.

The idea was the brainchild of AV projectionists Lumen, who helped create 60ft tall images and videos of first team stars Jack Hunt and Danny Ward – as well the legendary Andy Booth – all wearing the new Umbro kit.

Those images and videos were then projected onto the facade of the town’s neo-classical style railway station and fans cheered as the kit was unveiled at just after 10pm.

It was similar to when Madness performed at the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Concert when Buckingham Palace became the canvas of a creative lights show, with projections of streets and hearts shone onto the palace.

Town’s Commercial Director Sean Jarvis said: “Huddersfield Town is now a Championship football club and we want to make sure that our operation off the field is of that standard, so it was important that we launched our first Championship home kit in style.

“Everyone at the club would like to extend their gratitude to Lumen. The projection looked unbelievable and it was a proud moment to see the new kit and our players taking over St George’s Square in such a breath-taking fashion.”

Among the crowd were the Early family, William, 11, Jo, nine, and Edith, seven, who were there with mum and dad, Suzanne and John.

Jo said: “I really like what they’ve done – it’s like they’ve turned an old building into something really modern looking.

“I’m happy Town went up – they’ve got really good players and they’ve made us proud.”

Edith said: “It looks really effective. It looks like they’ve put a giant flag on the train station.”

William, who was at the Wembley play-off win, said: “It’s been really exciting. I’m happy they’ve gone up. This isn’t as nerve-wracking as being at Wembley but was as good fun.”

John Turner, 28, and his cousin Paul, 27, both of Dalton, attended after watching the England vs France game in Euro 2012.

John said: “It’s brilliant that Town do something like this. They could just put it on the website but they do something to get everyone involved.

“There’s been a good few hundred people here and it shows that Town think about their fans. The lights on the station were brilliant. It should happen more often.”

Huddersfield Town secured promotion to the Championship after a nail-biting win over Sheffield United at Wembley.

Their triumph on the pitch attracted tens of thousands of fans to turn Huddersfield town centre into a sea of blue and white during the club’s victory parade.

And last night the club illuminated the town once again to showcase the 2012/13 home kit which was tailored by Umbro and features the new home shirt sponsor Rekorderlig.

It takes a new stance on Town’s traditional blue and white stripes with a chequered pattern of dark and light blue forming this year’s thinner stripes, a new V-neck collar and a white central stripe with the stripes also continuing down the arms.

The club’s new white shorts have more detail on the reverse and the black socks feature the Umbro logo.

The kit will go on sale on Saturday, June 16, from 9am at the Stadium Superstore, the Sporting Pride shop at 12 Cloth Hall Street and it can be pre-ordered online at: htafcmegastore.com

TOWN’S partnership with Kirklees College continues, but the college will not feature on the club’s new shirt.

Huddersfield Town have confirmed Kirklees College as its official education and training partner for 2012/13.

Kirklees College has become co-sponsors of the Huddersfield Town Enterprise Academy which is the club’s business networking event.

The first two years of the partnership has seen students getting unparalleled opportunities to get hands-on work experience through the club.

The students provided match day entertainment as well as starring in Football League adverts on national TV advertising the Play-Off campaigns.

In the forthcoming season the club and college say they want to build on an initiative that aims to build tomorrow’s businesses.

Town’s Commercial Director Sean Jarvis said: “We’ve been honoured and privileged to work with the team at Kirklees College over the last two years and we’re delighted they are continuing as a partner of the club next season.”

Melanie Brooke, vice-principal at Kirklees College, added: “The partnership has worked really well for both the club and the college.

“Hundreds of our students have got involved with competitions, performances, tours, talks, coaching and presentations from Huddersfield Town players and staff.

“I think the association with the club has brought a positive feel to the college and has helped us become an even greater part of the local community.”
