A MAN was robbed by a gang during his meal break from work.

The 21-year-old was sitting by the side of Huddersfield Narrow Canal in the centre of Slaithwaite when he was approached by a gang of six youths.

They noticed he had his mobile phone clipped to his waistband and asked to look at it.

He refused and walked away, but they ran up from behind and punched him in the head several times.

He was then held on the ground while the gang searched him and stole the Nokia phone along with a grey Adidas wallet and a blue Adidas watch.

He managed to get to his feet and ran off.

The gang are all Asian, African-Caribbean or mixed race young men aged from 18 to 22.

One is Asian, 5ft 11ins and skinny with short dark hair cropped at the back and a goatee beard.

He wore a blue Adidas tracksuit with three stripes down the sleeves and legs. He also wore blue trainers.

Another is an Asian or mixed race man, 5ft 9ins tall and slim. He wore a long black coat with fur around the hood and a dark skull cap with white squiggly lines on it.

Another is an African- Caribbean man who is very tall - possibly 6ft 6ins - and skinny with short Afro hair. He wore a white Nike hooded top with the word Swoosh printed across the front. He also wore blue and green trainers.

Sgt Tim O'Sullivan, of Huddersfield police, said: "The descriptions we have are very detailed so we feel sure someone must know this gang's identity."
