A GANG of 20 men with a variety of weapons blocked St Andrew's Road as trouble flared at Huddersfield's Easter Fair.

The men had clashed with others outside the fairground.

Police said today that one man suffered stab wounds following the disorder at about 6.30pm on Sunday.

There were further problems at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary after the injured man was taken there.

Groups clashed at the Accident and Emergency Unit.

A security guard at the fairground also received minor facial injuries after two groups of men clashed.

The disturbance continued in the hospital.

Two men, including the one being treated for a stab wound to his side, were arrested.

The stabbing victim, a 21-year-old Fartown man, and a Bradley Mills man, also 21, were charged with public order offences and are due to appear before Huddersfield magistrates on Wednesday next week.

A 22-year-old Lockwood man arrested on suspicion of wounding has been released on police bail.

Two police officers also received slight injuries at the Infirmary.

The Easter Fair, a regular event in Huddersfield for more than 100 years, ends later today. It has attracted thousands of people since opening on Good Friday, with many visitors being family groups.

They enjoyed traditional fairground rides, including the waltzer and the dodgems, but also new thrill rides such as Move It and The Crazy Hopper.

Fairground staff employed their own security guards to try to prevent problems over the holiday weekend.
