AN UPSURGE in thefts from garages and garden sheds has prompted police to issue a warning to householders.

Opportunist thieves have raided properties in Almondbury, Sheepridge, Linthwaite and Meltham in the last few days.

More than six homes fell victim to thieves on Tuesday this week alone.

Det Chief Insp Tony Craven of Huddersfield Police warned people to be extra vigilant and review the security of garages, sheds and outbuildings.

Thieves saw insecure sheds and outbuildings as rich pickings at this time of year as they contained expensive tools, lawnmowers and equipment which could be quickly sold on.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Huddersfield Police on 01484 436685.
