The birth of Lexi Olivia Leigh Marsden was cause for an extra special family celebration last week.

For little Lexi entered the world to become the fifth generation female in her large and close-knit family.

There’s mum Olivia Woods, 18, who lives in Leymoor Road, Golcar, followed by grandma Paula Woods, 36, who lived about 10 doors away in Leymoor Road.

Then there’s Paula’s mum and great grandma Jane Fisher, who lives two doors away in Leymoor Road. Finally, at the head of the matriarchal family is June Heaton, 76, who doesn’t live in Leymoor Road!

Instead she lives round the corner in Oak Avenue.

June has 26 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

Paula said: “We are a very close family, mostly girls. We have all been brought up in Golcar and stayed here.

“We see each other all the time – every day – and get on really well. There are loads of babies in the family, and another one due in December!”

The women are a familiar sight at St John’s Church in Golcar, the family’s church and venue for the many marriages and christenings.

They are currently planning Lexi’s christening.

Paula added: “The christening will definitely be well attended. There will be about 150 family members there.”
