POLICE were today questioning a man in connection with the unsolved murder of a newspaper delivery girl who vanished 26 years ago.

Genette Tate was 13 when she disappeared from a country lane near her home in east Devon.

Devon and Cornwall Police said a 57-year-old man was in custody at Leeds Police Station where he was being interviewed.

The arrest follows the force's announcement yesterday that Devon and Cornwall Police officers planned to travel North interview triple child killer Robert Black, jailed in 1994, about the Genette case.

Black is in Wakefield Prison serving 10 life sentences for the abduction and murder of three young girls and the attempted abduction of a 15-year-old girl.

Genette disappeared from Within Lane, near Aylesbeare, at 3.35pm on August 29, 1978.

She was delivering copies of a local newspaper at the time.

Genette's body was never found, and her case has become Britain's longest missing person inquiry.
