FREE bus travel for the elderly could signal the revitalisation of public transport.

That was the message from Huddersfield Labour Party candidate Barry Sheerman on a fact-finding mission to the First Bus depot in Old Fieldhouse Lane.

Mr Sheerman, who had talks with First Bus business director Graham Riley, said: "I had lots of complaints about bus services and about accessibility for passengers.

"I like the new buses First Bus are introducing and they welcome the idea of free travel for over 60s.

"They see it as the rebirth of the bus system and hope to run more services".
