HUDDERSFIELD Giants fan David Mallinson, of Waterloo, is retiring after a long career in industry, in education and at sea.

Mr Mallinson, 63, has spent the last 22 years at Huddersfield University.

But the mechanical engineering technician in the university's School of Computing and Engineering has enjoyed a varied career.

He started at David Brown Gears at Park Works, Lockwood, before choosing a life at sea in the Merchant Navy.

He returned to Brown's some years later, before working at Mikron for 12 years. He became a production engineer with Langclose, before going to the then Huddersfield Polytechnic in 1984.

In his 22 years at the institution Mr Mallinson was a key player in developing the manufacturing technical facilities.

Friends and colleagues wished him well at a retirement party. He is pictured (centre) with colleagues (from left) Geoff Skenfield, David Bray, Dennis Town, John Clay, Keith Mallinson and Peter Norman.
