YOUNG scientists from Moor End Technology College attended a special event at Westminster Abbey.

The four year nine students – Ebony Allison, Haidar Nasir, Ibrar Perwaiz and Shanice Buckle – are all on the school’s gifted and talented programme for science.

They attended the Commonwealth Day observance at the abbey.

The observance is held annually and celebrates the unity of the commonwealth.

The theme this year was science and technology.

The event included a service in the abbey with music and guest speakers from several commonwealth countries.

The main speaker was fertility expert Professor Robert Winston who has appeared on many BBC television programmes about the human body.

The event was also attended by several members of the royal family including the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Pupils got to experience a unique opportunity to take in the impressive surroundings of the abbey as well as seeing the Queen.
