A SCHOOLGIRL was subjected to a horrifying sex attack on a quiet lane.

The 15-year-old was walking along Rough Birchworth Lane in Oxspring, near Penistone, between 8.30am and 9am on Friday morning when she was attacked.

The man, described as 19 to 20 years old and with a dark goatee beard, struck as the girl was crossing a bridge near the Wagon and Horses pub.

He was wearing a white long-sleeved top, black jogging bottoms with three white stripes and a black beanie hat.

Det Insp James Abdy, who is leading the inquiry said: "The area where the attack happened is just off the Trans Pennine Trail and is an area known to be well used by dog walkers and ramblers.

"We want to hear from anyone who thinks they may have seen or heard anything.

"The girl is quite understandably very shocked and shaken."

Landlord of the Wagon and Horses James Brewis said this attack would shock the village.

He added: "Oxspring is still a rural place and for this to happen is very unexpected.

"People will be worried by this."
