A LITTLE girl who got her head stuck at a church yesterday morning had to be freed by firefighters.

The youngster was running around just after the Rev Stephen Henry's service had finished at Lindley Parish Church at 11.45am yesterday.

The three-year-old put her head between the rear wall of the church and a metal pole and became lodged.

Churchwarden Glen Stewart said the congregation tried to free her.

He added: "We were having coffee and a chat after the service when the girl became stuck.

"We tried to get her out, but to no avail. So we called the fire brigade."

Watch Manager Tony Bateman said they used specialised equipment to free the girl.

He added: "We used battery-powered hydraulic spreaders and managed to flex the metal just enough to get her out.

"It was all over in five minutes."

The youngster was unharmed.

Mr Stewart added: "I don't think anyone was expecting this!"
