A GIRL of six who was abducted from her bath, sexually assaulted and then dumped naked in the street has told her distraught family of her ordeal.
A paedophile took her from her home in North Tyneside and abandoned her just 15 minutes later in a snowy back lane on Tuesday evening.
The child, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told relatives about the "nasty man" who took her away.
The victim's grandmother, who lives in County Durham, said: "She seems to be coping well, though you never know what is going on underneath.
"She has been talking about the nasty man who took her away from the house and the nice man who found her crying.
"We have all been crying and crying, but it could have been even worse. We could have lost her. She was out there stark naked."
The child, who has a younger brother, is being cared for by relatives.
Police say the man they are hunting is "extremely dangerous".
Detective Chief Inspector Jim Napier, speaking in Willington Quay, where the girl was found, said: "From her account, somebody has been brazen enough to enter her house, take her away undressed and then assaulted her in a manner which is clearly sexually motivated, then leave her in this lane, in the dark, on her own.
"That individual is extremely dangerous."
Police will be speaking to known sex offenders in the wider Tyneside area over the coming days and weeks.
Officers want to hear from anyone who may have seen a middle-aged man wearing dark clothing and gloves in the Willington Quay area on the night.
They would also like to hear any reports of a screeching car being driven erratically away from the Armstrong Road area of the district at about 7.30pm on Tuesday.
