THREE men have been arrested and bailed in connection with a drive-by shooting in which a 24-year-old man was shot in the face.

The victim is still in hospital with serious facial injuries although his wounds are not thought to be life-threatening.

Three Huddersfield men, aged 22, 23 and 27, have been arrested and bailed in connection with the incident and police inquiries are ongoing.

Armed police flooded the scene at Gledholt after reports that a shot had been fired from a car towards a second vehicle in Heaton Road, on Thursday, at around 11.40pm .

The victim was found by police in a car in Waverley Street, Marsh, a short distance away and was taken to hospital.

No passengers were injured.

Police believe the man was shot as he was travelling in a car with two other men on Heaton Road.

The suspects are thought to have been in another vehicle when the gun was fired.

Officers carried out an extensive search of the area which caused residents to wake to find officers in gardens and alleyways.

The West Yorkshire Police (WYP) helicopter was also scrambled to assist in a search.

A WYP spokesperson said: “The victim is in hospital although his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“Two men were in custody initially arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

“A third man, 27, was arrested on suspicion of the same offence and bailed.”

Gledholt pensioner Barry Hudson, 70, was woken by banging on his back door to find a man bleeding heavily on his doorstep .

He and two friends had been in a car which had been shot at by men from another vehicle.

The three ditched their vehicle before arriving at Mr Hudson’s house and begging for help.

Other residents told how they woke to see a man ‘covered in blood’ in a ginnel behind their homes.
